The Basic Idea
The objective of this setup is to identify a fresh momentum move rather than entering after price has already become heavily extended.
The setup combines four important elements: fresh RSI momentum, trendline breakout, VWAP + EMA20 trend structure, and distance from the moving averages.
Three Core Conditions
Same-Day RSI Momentum
RSI should demonstrate a fresh move through the 40–60 zone during the current trading day.
Previous-day RSI movement should not be counted as today's momentum confirmation.
Trendline Breakout
Wait for a completed candle to close above the trendline.
A wick crossing the trendline alone is not treated as confirmation.
VWAP + EMA20 Structure
For bullish momentum, VWAP should remain below EMA20 while price trades above both.
Avoid chasing price when it is already far away from both reference levels.
Sample Momentum Setup
The following chart is an illustrative example showing how the conditions can align before an entry.
Price breaks the established trendline.
Candle body closes above the trendline.
Price remains above EMA20 and VWAP.
RSI Confirmation
Look for fresh intraday momentum
The preferred sequence is:
The focus is on fresh momentum developing during the current trading session.
Important: Do Not Chase Extended Price
Price should not be excessively far from VWAP or EMA20
A valid trend structure does not automatically mean that the current candle is a good entry point.
- ✓ Price close to EMA20 and VWAP
- ✓ Breakout has just occurred
- ✓ RSI is developing fresh momentum
- ✕ Avoid a large extended candle far above EMA20
- ✕ Avoid entering after a sharp vertical move
Complete Trading Checklist
| # | Condition | Confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Same-day RSI | RSI develops fresh momentum from the 40–60 zone toward ≥60 |
| 2 | Trendline | Completed candle body closes above trendline |
| 3 | Trend structure | Price > EMA20 > VWAP |
| 4 | Price extension | Price is not excessively far from EMA20/VWAP |
| 5 | Entry | Prefer breakout or controlled pullback/retest |
For Bearish / PE Momentum
The same concept can be reversed for bearish momentum:
Look for fresh RSI weakness, a bearish trendline breakdown, price below EMA20 and VWAP, and avoid entering after an excessively extended downward move.
Final Setup
Bullish Momentum Setup
Fresh RSI momentum + Trendline body-close breakout + Price > EMA20 > VWAP + Price not excessively extended
This is a rule-based trading framework, not a guarantee of profitability. It should be tested on historical data and paper-traded before being used with real capital.
